Jane’s Freedom comes from a year-long project called “Freedom on the Move in New Orleans.” Students from five public schools in the city participated—from third graders to high schoolers.
The National Historical Publications and Records Commission at the National Archives sponsored it. Our project team included historians from Freedom on the Move (FOTM), the Hard History Project, and the Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies at the University of New Orleans.
