Mark’s Way comes from a pilot program with Mastery Charter School Shoemaker Campus. One teacher and five classes participated in culturally responsive design sessions using a local history story that has national significance.
One teacher and over 100 students participated in a series of workshops to learn, develop, and co-create innovative, high-quality learning experiences throughout the year. This pilot focuses on the 1944 Philadelphia Transit Strike. They understood how to address gaps in history knowledge, discuss the resilience of marginalized communities, and drive discussion around the relevance of historical moments using engaging content.
